Virtual Hiker

Mount Tecumseh

Posted in Crowsnest Region by virtualhiker on August 25, 2009

In an effort to climb everything in the Crowsnest area before moving on to Banff, I pushed through painful blisters to climb Mount Tecumseh.  It was a pleasant scramble, although the light was bad again for photographs.  The approach was along a road which, like most roads in the area, was marked ‘No Trespassing’.  This is despite the local ‘Take a Hike in the Crowsnest Pass’ brochure illustrating it as the proper way.  At the end of the road, I followed a dried up drainage through interesting smooth basin formations to the upper slopes.

Early on in the drainage the basins provided a fun challenge to scramble right up the middle

After a while, the drainage canyon steepened, and the basins became technical slab climbs. I would have loved to have a partner and rope (not to mention rock shoes - Ian, where were you??) and continue up the middle, but opted to leave the canyon instead

On the summit ridge looking West towards Phillips Peak - a moderate ridgewalk with a few difficult steps - again I opted out
