Nuuluk

After spending four nights in Qassiarsuk, we sailed across Tunulliarfik (Eriks) Fjord to the landing at Itilleq. A gentle 4km walk along the King’s Road from Itilleq leads you to the wonderful town of Igaliku (Norse Garðar), where we settled in for a six-night stay in a comfortable house. After shooting wrapped up in the afternoon of the second day, I decided to head up 824 metre Nuuluk, situated just South of the town. Not having the proper route description printed from Blue Ice Explorer, available on their website here, I followed the King’s Road back towards Itilleq and branched off on the waterfall hike road. I followed this road too far, going up a ridge beyond (to the South) of where I should have ascended. It was ultimately not a problem, and I reached the summit without much difficulty, however the way down was shortened considerably by realizing this error.

According to the Blue Ice Explorer directions, a more direct route is possible from behind the church in town

The headwall beneath the summit looks imposing, but can be ascended via weaknesses. Make sure to take your time in route finding, as it can turn into a difficult scramble quickly if you are off route
