After being picked up by boat at Hvalsey yesterday evening, we sailed back to Qassiarsuk in order to do a little more shooting before returning to Narsarsuaq, and eventually leaving Greenland. There was still one more vantage I had not visited in the Qassiarsuk region, Ammassiviup Qaqqaa. Recommended to me by Knud and Søren, Ammassiviup Qaqqaa is to Qassiarsuk what Signalhøjen is to Narsarsuaq – a short walk with a pleasant view of the town and its surroundings. To get there, I went cross-country and linked up with the road to Nunataaq. Remember not to cross any cultivated fields for sheep if you’re doing this. After linking up with the road, I took the left branch towards Sillisit and gained some elevation before leaving the road again to my left and heading for the high point on the plateau. On the way back down I followed sheep trails and eventually a proper hiking trail that runs between the two roads (one to Nunataaq and one to Tasiusaq from Qassiarsuk) to make a nice loop and returned to town just behind the Leif Eriksson Hostel.
